Red Hot Yoga Retreat Mykonos 2013:

In May this year, I was asked to teach on The Red Hot Yoga Retreat in Mykonos, Greece. Alongside Clarissa who owns the Red Hot Yoga studio in Guildford and Clive and Alex two of the other teachers at the studio. How incredibly lucky am I! Teaching Yoga my favourite thing in the world on one of the most beautiful Greek Islands in the world!

So our journey began on Sunday 19th May, meeting the fellow Yogis at Gatwick and getting on a jet plane to Mykonos.
As we stepped off the plane we were hit by this amazing warm air! Aah…… Proper heat! Oh how we had missed it after our very long winter!
Clarissa was there to greet us and we made our way to the beautiful Rocabella Arts Hotel where we had a lovely Greek salad for lunch poolside!
The rest of the day consisted of checking into our rooms, which were amazing and apparently a few lucky yogis had their very own hot tub on their balconies , sunbathing by the pool, and then Alex kicked off the first Yoga practise at 4.30pm with me assisting and adjusting , we were practising by the pool under a beautiful wooden covered structure, with wafts of lovely smelling incense, sounds of birds tweeting in the trees with a cool sea breeze, all while overlooking the Aegean Sea! Bliss…….

Each day we awoke at 6am to the sound of a beautiful cockerel, tea & fruit were served by the pool as the sun started to rise and then we commenced the first Yoga practise of the day at 6.30am for 2 hours. We structured the week and themed each class all with the guidance of Clarissa. Alex started us off with a gentle flow, we then worked on every aspect of the body as the days went on, one class focusing on the side body, foundations of flow, shoulders, heart openers using backbends, arm balances, twists and finally hips. Clive actually taught many of the Yogis their first ever Ashtanga class, he only told them afterwards mind icon smile Red Hot Yoga Mykonos Retreat May 2013: But what an achievement!

After our morning practise we all had the most delicious and very well earned breakfast by the pool and thereafter the Yogis had the day free to hit the beach, stay by the pool or walk into Mykonos town for a little retail therapy or to see the town Pelican who was a pale shade of pink, this is due to eating prawns apparently ! We then commenced our second practise of the day at 4.30pm which tended to be more workshop based and finished with Yoga nidra taken by either Alex or myself.

Once our last practise of the day was finished there was a little time to get freshened up before dinner by the pool, it was so lovely to be able to dine outside watching the sunset and every meal we were served at the Rocabella was exquisite!

On the Tuesday night, it was the teachers night off so we had dinner in Mykonos town, we enjoyed a sneaky little cocktail in Little Venice, spotted the town Pelican and then onto a restaurant that Clive & Mark recommended where the food was absolutely divine!

Our last dinner together with all our lovely Yogis was very special, we had a couple of Yogis, Karen & Chrissie’s birthdays while we were in Mykonos, so we had some bubbles to celebrate with them and to celebrate such a fantastic week! We then had one last practise on Thursday morning which was very emotional( well for me it was anyway) and then we were off to the airport and on a jet plane back to Gatwick!

There are so many special memories for me from the week, the transformation of every Yogis practise was astounding! The gorgeous Hotel, Fine cuisine, Beautiful beaches, especially Paraga beach with Clive Mark where we swam out to a large rock and could see lots of colourful coral and fishes , watching some of the Yogis achieve their first ever Ashtanga class, Milkshakes and coffees at Little Venice, The famous Windmills, Mykonos town harbour at night, afternoons on the beach, teaching the last class of the retreat and last but certainly not least being able to teach so many amazing Yogis with 3 truly very special teachers, Clarissa, Clive and Alex – I could not have asked for a nicer team to work with! I am truly grateful to have been asked to share such a special week with you all!
Namaste x
